Advantages and disadvantages of titanium alloy hot rolling?

The advantages of hot rolling
(1) Hot rolling can significantly reduce energy consumption and reduce costs. Generally, with the increase of temperature, the deformation resistance of the metal decreases, so the deformation resistance of the metal during hot rolling is lower than that during cold processing, which can significantly reduce the energy consumption during rolling. Therefore, any metal that can be hot-rolled should be hot-rolled.

(2) Hot rolling can improve the processing properties of metals and alloys. Because hot rolling can break the coarse grains in the casting state, the microscopic cracks are healed, and the casting defects are reduced or eliminated.

Therefore, hot rolling can transform the cast structure with low plasticity into the deformed structure with high plasticity (processing structure), and improve the processing performance of metal.

(3) Hot rolling can use large reduction rolling. In a certain temperature range, with the increase of temperature, the plasticity of the metal increases, so that a larger deformation can be used for rolling, but also reduce the crack defects of the metal, improve the metal yield.

(4) Hot rolling can be applied to large ingot rolling. Because the metal has higher plasticity and less deformation resistance during hot rolling, larger billets can be used. It can not only improve productivity, yield and rolling speed, but also create conditions for continuous and automatic rolling process.

Second, the shortcomings of hot rolling
(1) Hot rolling is difficult to accurately control the mechanical properties of the product, the structure and properties of the hot rolled product are not uniform, the strength of the hot rolled product is low, and the performance fluctuation range is large.

(2) The size of hot-rolled products is difficult to accurately control, the surface is rougher than that of cold-rolled products, and the surface quality is not high due to easy oxidation at high temperatures. Therefore, in the production of non-ferrous metal sheet and strip, hot rolling rarely directly produces finished products, and most of them provide bad materials for cold rolling.
