Polishing method and technique of titanium rod and titanium alloy
(1) Fine grinding
That is, the surface of titanium and titanium alloy castings is grinded with various kinds of conventional emery rubber wheels. The problem to pay attention to when grinding is still not to make the casting heat production, can not cause grinding injuries on the surface of the casting, and make the entire surface to achieve smooth.
(2) barrel grinding method
The so-called barrel grinding method is to put the machined castings, abrasives, water and additives into the barrel grinding groove, the grinding barrel produces rotation and vibration, so that the mixture of abrasives and the machined castings produce friction, and the surface of the casting is polished and smooth. It is characterized by no dust pollution, low labor intensity, and no heat production in the conventional grinding process. At present, Japan has commercialized drum grinding machines and abrasives for the grinding of titanium and titanium alloy castings, other metal castings and plastics. Tests have confirmed that the grinding efficiency of pk series abrasives is the highest, but the roughness of the surface is also the highest. Although the grinding efficiency of SA and B series abrasives is not as good as PK, the surface smoothness of titanium castings after grinding is the highest.
(3) Mechanical polishing method
A method of polishing the surface of titanium and titanium alloys with a soft cloth wheel or a black brush of different specifications dipped in titanium and a special polishing paste containing titanium alloys. When polishing titanium castings, it must be completely clear that the surface contamination layer of the castings and no new grinding hardening layer occur, and the ideal polishing effect will not be achieved. High speed and light pressure are still used when polishing. The author has also tested the use of green polishing paste to polish titanium and titanium alloy castings, and obtained a better polishing effect. The polished titanium and titanium alloy castings can not be immediately washed, must be completely formed before the surface oxide film can be washed, otherwise the surface will produce darkening phenomenon.
