Application of titanium equipment in Marine industry

At present, titanium for Marine engineering has become one of the main fields of titanium civil application.

Offshore oil production equipment mainly includes oil production platform and auxiliary equipment, auxiliary equipment such as crude oil cooler, lift pipe, pump, valve, joint and fixture. These devices are in contact with sulfides, ammonia, chlorine and other media in seawater and crude oil. Because titanium has excellent corrosion resistance in these media, the United States used offshore oil platform pillars made of titanium in its oil fields in the early 1970s, and at the same time made tubular heat exchangers and plate heat exchangers with titanium. About 100 titanium heat exchangers are used on North Sea oil RIGS in the United States.

Early desalination devices used copper alloy, carbon steel and other materials, because these materials are not resistant to seawater corrosion, low production efficiency, and soon replaced by titanium with excellent seawater corrosion resistance. In seawater desalination, the main application of titanium is the heater heat transfer tube of the desalination unit. A Japanese company built 10 distillation devices with a daily output of 30,000 tons of fresh water for Saudi Arabia, and 3200 tons of titanium tubes were used. An average daily output of 10,000 tons of devices required 107 tons of titanium. China's Tianjin, Shandong and other places have built or under construction seawater desalination equipment.

Titanium and its alloys are widely used in ships, such as hull structural parts, deep sea survey ships and submarine pressure housing, pipes, valves, rudders, shaft brackets, accessories, thrusters and propeller shafts in power drive devices, heat exchangers, coolers, hull sonar deflectors and so on. In addition, titanium equipment is also used in Marine fisheries, Marine heat energy conversion and other fields, such as Japan in artificial culture technology, a large number of titanium metal mesh and titanium tube heat exchangers to maintain a certain sea temperature; In the field of ocean heat energy conversion, the main equipment of thermal power stations in the United States and Japan, such as evaporators, condensers, seawater straws, and loop systems, have used titanium equipment, and have achieved good results.
