Three surface treatment effects of Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Grade 5) alloy seamless tubes
The three most commonly used surface treatment processes for Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Grade 5) alloy seamless tubes: acid washing, sandblasting, and polishing.
1. Acid washing treatment: Extremely simple rust prevention, suitable for basic anti-corrosion requirements
Pickling is the most fundamental and commonly used surface treatment process for seamless Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Grade 5) alloy tubes. The core purpose is to remove the oxide scale, oil stains, and impurities on the surface of the tubes, while forming a uniform passivation film, thereby enhancing the basic corrosion resistance.
Process Characteristics:
Appearance: The surface is uniformly silver-gray, without luster or distinct texture. The texture is simple and can retain the original outline of the pipe, without any additional decorative effect.
Advantages: Simple process, high processing efficiency, strong stability of the passivation film, capable of meeting the needs of most conventional anti-corrosion scenarios; it has minimal impact on the size of the pipe, and will not change the wall thickness or accuracy of the pipe.
Applicable scenarios:
It is suitable for scenarios where there are no strict requirements for appearance, but the focus is on the basic anti-corrosion performance. For example: chemical pipelines, auxiliary pipelines in marine engineering, concealed components in medical devices, and ordinary mechanical structural parts.
2. Sandblasting Treatment: Matte finish with anti-slip properties, balancing protection and practicality
Sandblasting treatment involves using high-pressure air to spray abrasive particles onto the surface of Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Grade 5) alloy seamless tubes. Through the impact and cutting action of the abrasive particles, the surface oxide scale and impurities are removed, while also forming a uniform rough surface on the surface, achieving both anti-corrosion and anti-slip effects.
Process Characteristics:
Appearance: The surface has a uniform matte texture, with fine granular patterns. The touch is rough and does not reflect light. Visually, it appears more stable and durable.
Advantages: The surface roughness can be controlled, the anti-slip performance is excellent, which can enhance the connection stability between the pipe and other components; the anti-corrosion performance is superior to acid washing (the rough surface can enhance the adhesion of the passivation film), and the decorative effect is more prominent than acid washing.
Applicable scenarios:
Suitable for scenarios where there are requirements for anti-slip and adhesion properties, while also needing certain decorative features. For example: structural connection components in the aerospace field, handheld parts in medical devices, anti-slip pipelines in marine equipment, and wear-resistant components in mechanical equipment.
3. Polishing Treatment: Mirror-like texture, suitable for high-end decoration and precise scenarios
The polishing process involves fine grinding of the surface of the Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Grade 5) alloy seamless pipe through physical abrasion or chemical polishing, removing surface scratches and rough areas, and ultimately achieving a mirror-like smooth surface. It is the most decorative of the three processes.
Process Characteristics:
Appearance: The surface has a mirror-like luster, with strong reflectivity. There are no obvious scratches or grainy textures. The texture is high-end and exquisite, allowing the metallic texture of the titanium alloy to be fully displayed.
Advantages: Excellent in decoration, with a smooth surface that is easy to clean and can reduce the adhesion of impurities; in precise scenarios, it can improve the dimensional accuracy and surface flatness of the pipe material, and reduce friction loss.
Applicable scenarios:
Suitable for high-end scenarios with extremely strict requirements for appearance texture and surface accuracy, such as exposed components in the aerospace field, the shells of precision instruments in medical devices, exposed pipelines of high-end chemical equipment, and decorative titanium alloy products.
